Three Bangladeshi Nationals Sentenced to Life Over UAE Riots

Three Bangladeshi nationals have been sentenced to life in prison, while 54 others face jail time and subsequent deportation, following riots in the UAE.

The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal convicted the individuals for inciting and participating in riots across multiple streets in the UAE, protesting against the Bangladeshi government.

On Friday, UAE Attorney-General Chancellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi ordered an immediate investigation into the unlawful assembly. A team of 30 investigators confirmed the suspects' involvement in public disturbances, promoting unrest, disrupting security, and disseminating footage of these actions online. Several defendants confessed to their crimes.

Witnesses testified that the defendants organized large-scale protests against decisions made by the Bangladeshi government, leading to riots, public security disruption, law enforcement obstruction, and damage to property. Police warnings to disperse were ignored by the protesters.

On Sunday, the court sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for inciting demonstrations. Another 53 defendants received ten-year prison terms, and one individual, who entered the country illegally, was sentenced to eleven years. All will face deportation after serving their sentences, and their devices will be confiscated.
