The Cost of Flying Taxis in Abu Dhabi Explained

Air taxis are set to become a reality in Abu Dhabi by late 2025, thanks to Archer Aviation. Imagine bypassing the traffic jams and soaring above the city in an electric flying taxi. With prices that rival a premium car ride, these futuristic taxis are bound to make getting around Abu Dhabi – and beyond – an exhilarating experience.

What’s the Price for a Ride?

For short inner-city trips, expect to pay between AED 300 to AED 350. While this may seem like a premium price, it’s actually a bargain when you consider the time you’ll save. Instead of sitting in traffic for an hour, you’ll be gliding through the air in just 20 to 30 minutes, reaching your destination faster and with less hassle.

Longer Journeys?

A ride between Abu Dhabi and Dubai will cost around AED 800 to AED 1,500. It’s not exactly pocket change, but for the speed, comfort, and thrill of flying, it’s a reasonable price to pay. Plus, the time saved on a trip that usually takes an hour or more by car is priceless.

Meet the Midnight eVTOL Aircraft

These air taxis will be powered by Archer’s Midnight eVTOL aircraft. This sleek, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle can carry up to four passengers and a pilot. With speeds reaching up to 241 km/h, the Midnight is designed to get you where you need to go fast – and safely.

For example, if you’re traveling from Abu Dhabi International Airport to Emirates Palace, you’ll make the journey in just 5 to 8 minutes. Compare that to the typical 45-minute car ride, and it’s easy to see why these air taxis are such a game-changer.

Safety First

Safety is the top priority with these electric air taxis. The Midnight aircraft is designed with multiple safety features to ensure passengers are secure at all times. One key feature is redundancy – the aircraft has up to a dozen electric propellers. Even if one of them fails, the remaining propellers ensure the taxi can still land safely.

Archer Aviation is currently working on receiving final approvals from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and once those are in place, they plan to launch commercial services by late 2025 or early 2026.

The Future of Air Travel in the UAE

Archer Aviation’s air taxi service will not only offer a unique way to travel but will also position Abu Dhabi as the international headquarters for this innovative mode of transportation. In the future, as operations become more efficient, the cost of these air taxis may even be comparable to a regular taxi or an Uber ride.

Nikhil Goel, the chief commercial officer at Archer Aviation, said, “We’re in the final stages of FAA approval, and with our ongoing process with the GCAA, we’re on track to launch by the end of 2025 or the start of 2026.”
