Ten festivals in Sharjah you don’t want to miss

Sharjah is a city where thousands of multicultural people live, people who search for something that entertain them at the end of the day or teach them a lesson for life. Here are the top ten choices in Sharjah city for those who are interested in culture, food, sports and books:

1- Sharjah Food Festival: A festival that is organized by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). It is known also as Al Qasba Food Festival. It’s an 11-day event that hosts chiefs from different parts of the world; with many people lining up for celebrations and activities, such as: food truck, fruit cravings, entertainment and fun, demonstrations and much more.

2- Sharjah Light Festival: It’s a 9-day festival organized by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. It combines advanced graphics with 3D lightening techniques with music, focusing on the perfect-architectural design of the Islamic landmarks in the emirate, in addition to the historic and cultural places.

3- Sharjah Water Festival: A festival organized by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. It covers an array of leisure activities, including: dazzling water shows, water skiing events, fireworks, sand sculpture competitions, magic shows, family activities, heritage village and much more. Join us during winter and have fun.

4- UAE National Day: As a united country since 1971, it celebrities this wonderful occasion every year on 2^nd of December. Residents and expatriates gather at venues and streets, showing their love to their country by having marches with their cars that are decorated by the UAE flag or images of its sheiks and other signs that show their love to the UAE. There are also exhibitions with cultural dances and songs, besides showing others some cultural aspects and products of the country. Let’s not forget the fireworks that cover the sky of the country using the four colors of its flag.

5- Sharjah Shopping festival: A festival that is especially made for shopping lovers. Sharjah introduces you to its shopping festival in summer. Enjoy endless and attractive deals, discounts, sales, freebies and wide range of activities for people of all age groups. This festival is the first of its kind of consumer- related projects in Sharjah. 

 

6- Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial: A festival that is established to support, promote the Arabic calligraphy and also notifying people of its importance and beautiful features. In this festival, popular calligraphers are invited from different parts of the world to show their projects in order to help enhancing the calligraphy and calling people to start practicing it. In return, people attending the biennial will question the history of calligraphy and the way of doing it. 7- Sharjah Heritage days: A festival that is organized by the Directorate of Heritage, Department of Culture and Information and coincides with the UNESCO’s celebrations of the Heritage International Day in April. It’s a festival that reminds you with the genuine past of the country, in addition to explaining the real Emirate identity to both locals and expatriates.

8- Electric Run: It’s a 5km run festival that is organized by international sports marketing agency Fast Track. A festival that extracts negative energy by the amount of lights, music and exercises; make it fun to join an unforgettable experience in Sharjah. You dress up in vivid cloths that light up in the darkness, with neon-lightened accessories and sticks while running through multicolored-neon lightening way. Many activities and games are played during the festival.

9- Sharjah International Book Fair: One of the biggest events organized by Sharjah Book Authority for readers and books lovers. This festival shows Sharjah’s consideration of culture and enriching its people with information. The festival invites big names in publishing houses around the world that sell different books in different languages. The festival also offers a great discount on books.  Many public figures and writers attend the festival and announce their new projects, have talks with people, take pictures and sign to them with kind words to remember.

10- Sharjah Children’s reading Festival: An 11-day event that extends its joy and fun to parents, not only children. It’s a festival that encourages discovery, creativity entertainment, learning, responsibility and self-education from a young age to develop a generation of educators, professionals who contribute to the development of the society.
