Sheikh Mohammed Approves Al Maktoum Airport Terminal Designs

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has given the green light for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, signaling a major milestone in Dubai's aviation development strategy.

The ambitious project, unveiled as part of the Dubai Aviation Corporation's forward-looking strategy, aims to position Dubai as a global aviation leader for the next four decades. With plans to gradually transfer all operations from Dubai International Airport to the new facility within the next ten years, the new terminal is poised to revolutionize air travel in the region.

Costing an estimated Dh128 billion, the state-of-the-art terminal will boast 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways, covering an expansive area of ​​70 square kilometers. Upon completion, it will dwarf the current Dubai International Airport (DXB) in size, offering unparalleled capacity and efficiency for passengers and airlines alike.

In a groundbreaking move, the new airport will incorporate cutting-edge technologies never before seen in the aviation sector, setting a new standard for innovation and excellence. Sheikh Mohammed took to social media platform X to share the exciting news, emphasizing the airport's potential to accommodate up to 260 million passengers, making it the largest airport in the world.

"We are preparing for a new phase in the growth of the global aviation sector," wrote Sheikh Mohammed. "Dubai will lead the international aviation sector for the next forty years."

Beyond its role as a transportation hub, Al Maktoum International Airport will anchor an entire airport city in Dubai South, driving demand for housing and attracting leading companies in logistics and air transport sectors. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the project's significance in shaping Dubai's future as a global hub for commerce, culture, and innovation.

"We are building a new project for generations," Sheikh Mohammed stated. "Dubai will be the world’s airport, port, urban metropolis, and new cultural center."

Today, we approved the designs for the new passenger terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport, and commencing construction of the building at a cost of AED 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation's strategy.
