A deadly fire broke out on Sunday morning in a high-rise residential building in Sharjah’s Al Nahda area, claiming five lives and injuring six others.
The fire started on the 44th floor of the tower, leading to chaos as residents tried to escape. Four of the victims died after falling from the building while attempting to flee. Their identities have not been confirmed. Another victim, a Pakistani man in his 40s, reportedly died of cardiac arrest caused by shock. Authorities confirmed he had no burn injuries.
Six others were seriously injured, while one person was treated for smoke inhalation. All are now in stable condition and receiving care at Al Qassimi Hospital.
Fire Reported Midday, Cooling Operations Completed by Evening
The Sharjah Civil Defense received the emergency call at 11:30 AM. Firefighting teams from multiple stations responded quickly, evacuated residents, and brought the flames under control.
Cooling operations were completed by 7 PM, and the site was handed over to police for investigation. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Residents Temporarily Displaced
Thick smoke could be seen from a distance as emergency crews cordoned off the area for safety. By late evening, residents were gradually allowed back into the building, but floors above the 30th remain off-limits pending safety inspections.
Officials assured that temporary accommodation would be arranged for families who cannot return home.
The tower, located opposite Sahara Centre, is one of the tallest buildings in Sharjah. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started on the top two floors.
Another Fire Hits Warehouse in Industrial Area
Later the same day, another fire broke out at a fruits and vegetables warehouse in Sharjah’s Industrial Area 15. Civil defense teams quickly contained the flames. Nearby facilities were evacuated as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
This was the second fire in Sharjah on Sunday, raising public concern. Traffic diversions remain in place around the affected areas to support ongoing safety measures.
