If you've got traffic violations in Sharjah collecting dust for the past 10 years, there's finally a way out — and no, it doesn’t involve a time machine.
Sharjah's Executive Council has greenlit a new regulation that allows motorists to cancel traffic fines that are over ten years old from the date of issue, for a Dh1,000 cancellation fee. The announcement came during a council session chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi at the Sharjah Ruler’s office.
The move is designed to ease the financial burden for long-standing violations while still maintaining accountability for road safety.
But there are some notable exceptions where the Dh1,000 fee won’t apply. You’re off the hook if:
-
You can provide proof of the vehicle owner's death
-
The vehicle owner has been outside the UAE for 10 consecutive years
-
The vehicle was abandoned and it’s been impossible to locate the owner
While this might not help you with last year’s parking ticket, it’s a big step for those who’ve been dealing with unresolved violations dating back to the early 2010s.
So, if you’ve got a decade-old fine weighing on your conscience (and your wallet), it might be time to finally hit "reset."
