Sharjah Book Fair Supports Publishers from Palestine

Publishers from Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan will be exempt from registration fees for the upcoming Sharjah International Book Fair

The Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and the chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi issued the directive.

Organizers of the book fair have also announced they will provide industry support to publishers from the three countries during the event at the Expo Center in Sharjah.

The directive was issued because of the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon as well as the conflict in Sudan. The Sharjah Book Authority referred to the Palestinian Ministry of Culture's recent report about how 76 cultural centres, three theaters, five museums, 15 publishing houses and bookshops, and 80 public libraries in Gaza were destroyed during the war.

Aliph (the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas) has also discussed with the Lebanese government about protecting heritage sites in the country and will also help protect Baalbek.
