Ramadan Recipes: Chole Chaat

Chole Chaat is a spicy, tangy, and sweet South Asian street food snack. Made with white chickpeas, sweetened yogurt, onions, tomatoes, an array of spices, and chutneys, it is a popular Iftar dish during Ramadan.

- 250g chickpeas boiled
- 1 small tomato
- 1 small onion
- 3 tablespoons fresh coriander
- 3 tablespoons fresh mint
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
Boiled Chickpeas
- ½ cup yogurt
- 2-3 tablespoons white sugar
- ¼ cup water
Sweetened Yogurt
- ½ cup fresh mint
- ¼ cup fresh coriander
- 1 green chili
- salt
- ¼ teaspoon cumin
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Mint Chutney
- 100 g tamarind
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup jaggery
- ½ teaspoon red chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon black salt
- ½ teaspoon ginger powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin

- Prepare the Mint Chutney
تم نسخ الرابطIn a small blender add all the ingredients of the Mint Chutney and blend till smooth. Keep aside.
- Prepare the Imli Chutney
تم نسخ الرابطBoil water and turn off the heat, put the tamarind in it, along with the rest of the Imli Chutney ingredients, and cover for 15-20 minutes. When the tamarind is soft, blend everything together.
- Prepare the sweetened yogurt

- Prepare the boiled chickpeas
تم نسخ الرابطBoil chickpeas, add diced onion, diced tomato, mint, coriander, chaat masala, cumin powder, salt, and red chili powder. Mix well and put aside.
- Assemble the Chole Chaat
تم نسخ الرابطTake a big bowl, add some yogurt sparingly to the bottom of your serving bowl, put the chickpeas mixture, pour some more yogurt, then drizzle the mint and imli chutneys.
- Serve
