Ramadan Recipes: Beef Mechado

Beef Mechado is a saucy stew loaded with tender beef, potatoes, and carrots. The dish originated from the Philippines but it was inspired by the culinary methods of Spain.
The sauce is made from a combination of canned tomato sauce, soy sauce, garlic, onions, pepper, and bay leaves.

- 3 cloves garlic - crushed
- 1 large onion - sliced
- 1kg beef chuck - cubed
- 225g tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 slice lemon with rind
- 1 large potato - sliced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 bay leaves
- salt to taste

- Start cooking the meat
تم نسخ الرابطIn a large pan, heat cooking oil then saute the garlic and onion. Add the beef and cook it until the color turns light brown.
- Cook the meat until tender
تم نسخ الرابطAdd the tomato sauce and water then simmer until the meat is tender. This can take up to 120 minutes. Add water as needed.
- Spice the sauce

- Serve
