Rain, Hail in UAE: More Showers Expected in These Areas

On Monday, the UAE Met Department reported heavy rains and hail along the Dubai-Al Ain Road and in the Masakin area of Al Ain. Over the past two days, various parts of the UAE have seen light rain and heavy drizzles, with the forecast predicting more cloudy skies.

Rainfall and Temperature Forecast

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Al Ain is expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days. Abu Dhabi is also likely to experience some showers. Temperatures across the UAE are predicted to drop by 2-3°C, bringing a temporary relief from the heat.

Cause of Weather Changes

Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert from the NCM, explained that the unusual weather pattern is due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) reaching the UAE. The ITCZ is a belt of low pressure near the equator, where the trade winds of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet. Its northward movement towards India during summer brings moist winds that trigger the monsoon there, affecting weather patterns in the UAE as well.

Sporadic Showers and Humidity Levels

“These summer rains will continue sporadically till the end of August,” said Dr. Habib. Humidity levels are expected to drop as low as 15% in the mountains and could reach up to 80% in coastal areas and islands.

Temperature Drop and Future Outlook

Over the next few days, temperatures in the UAE will drop by 2-3 degrees. Internal areas will see maximum temperatures between 43-47°C, while coastal areas will range between 30-42°C. In mountainous regions, temperatures could go as low as 25°C, and internal areas might see lows around 28°C. However, temperatures may rise slightly after August 8.
