Parents in the UAE are Worried About Rising Back-to-School Costs

As the new academic year approaches, parents in the UAE are getting concerned about the rising tuition fees and other back-to-school costs.

Parents are concerned about the costs of uniforms, textbooks, and transportation.

In addition to these back-to-school costs, parents have to worry about increasing rent prices and various costs of living in the country.

A mother of two children shared how her family had to move out of her apartment to ease their financial burdens and to be able to afford school expenses.

Private schools in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah have been allowed to increase the tuition fees for the academic year of 2023-2024, which is the first increase in three years.

Some schools in Abu Dhabi were allowed to increase their tuition fees by 3.94 percent, while schools in Dubai were permitted to increase their fees by six percent.

Schools in Sharjah were permitted to increase their academic fees by five percent.

To try cutting down on school costs, parents have opted for carpooling, exchanging second-hand textbooks, and buying uniforms directly from retailers, instead of schools.
