New Food Safety Rating System to be Implemented in Abu Dhabi

The Zadna Rating stickers will be applied to the exteriors of almost 7,000 restaurants throughout the emirate as part of a new effort by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (Adafsa).

The stickers have a QR code that enables customers easily access the restaurant's or cafe's evaluation of its food safety levels.

The Adafsa scale ranges from "excellent" to "very good" to "good" to "needs improvement".

The project intends to promote Abu Dhabi as a premier travel destination while also establishing high-quality standards.

6,900 food establishments including cafes, bakeries, and catering businesses, will have Zadna Rating labels installed. By the end of this year August, the process is expected to be completed.

The ratings are intended to increase confidence among customers in Adafsa's control procedures, communicate the transparency of inspection findings, and motivate food-related businesses to pursue higher standards.

The Zadna Rating criteria for restaurants consider a number of factors, including the establishment's layout and construction, its furnishings and waste-disposal capabilities, the cleanliness of its staff members who handle food, its places for temperature control and food handling, as well as its procedures for managing food safety.
