The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has signed a major AED6 billion agreement with Dubai Holding aimed at improving infrastructure across several key development communities. The agreement will expand internal roads and access points, reducing travel time by 30-70% in multiple areas of the city.
This project covers vital communities and developments including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena. In addition, the agreement will enhance key access points to five major Dubai Holding projects: Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, and International City (Phase 3).
Key Projects Under the Agreement
The agreement will see significant upgrades to the city’s infrastructure, designed to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. Some of the most notable projects include:
Jumeirah Village Circle
Four new access points will be developed for Jumeirah Village Circle, equipped with grade-separated interchanges to double the capacity of the area’s entry and exit points. These improvements are expected to cut travel time on internal roads and access points by 70%, while enhancing traffic safety and ensuring smoother traffic flow at intersections.
Dubai Production City
New bridges will be constructed to improve access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City. This will reduce travel time by 50%, especially on entry and exit points, and improve internal road traffic flow.
Business Bay
The agreement includes surface improvements at key intersections leading to Business Bay from Sheikh Zayed Road. A pedestrian bridge will also be built at the intersection of Business Bay and First Al Khail Road to enhance safety and traffic flow. Upgrades to internal roads in the Towers Area are expected to reduce travel time by 30%.
Palm Jumeirah
Additional acceleration and deceleration lanes will be built at six locations across Palm Jumeirah, improving traffic flow. Two new pedestrian bridges will replace at-grade crossings, ensuring safer mobility for pedestrians while reducing travel time within Palm Jumeirah by 40%.
International City (Phase 3)
Road expansions, including the addition of a new lane and improved intersections, will streamline traffic entering International City from Manama Street. These upgrades are set to reduce travel time from 15 minutes to just five minutes, significantly improving connectivity and efficiency in the area.
A Strategic Partnership for Better Mobility
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Holding, expressed the importance of this partnership in enhancing Dubai's infrastructure. “This strategic partnership with RTA reflects our shared vision of a city that is not only innovative but also seamlessly accessible,” he said. “Together, we are reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in urban innovation.”
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, highlighted how the agreement will improve road safety, connectivity, and reduce travel times. "RTA remains committed to working with real estate developers to ensure that road infrastructure meets the growing demands of traffic in developing areas, enhancing mobility for residents and visitors alike."
Improved Access, Shorter Travel Times, and Better Connectivity
This AED6 billion investment is expected to improve the capacity of internal roads and access points, making travel across Dubai faster and safer. With travel times reduced by up to 70% in some areas, the agreement is set to significantly enhance the daily commute for both residents and visitors. With these developments, RTA and Dubai Holding are working together to create a more connected and efficient Dubai, reinforcing its reputation as a global hub for innovation and urban development.
