Legendary Bollyood Actor Star Manoj Kumar Passes Away at 87

Legendary Bollywood actor and filmmaker, Manoj Kumar, passed away at 87 on Friday, Apr. 4, at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, India, according to ANI. 

Kumar passed away because of heart-related complications, according to his son Kunal Goswami. 

Manoj Kumar, born Harikrishan Goswami, was known for taking on acting and directing projects which focused on Indian patriotism, for which he was nicknamed Bharat Kumar.

He made his debut in Indian cinema in 1950s and starred in films like 'Upkar', 'Purab Aur Pachhim', and 'Kranti'.

The actor received various awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour for cinema; the Padma Shri; a National Film Award, and seven Filmfare Awards. 

Manoj Kumar was also a member of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The late actor will be cremated on Saturday, Apr. 4. Various renowned personalities paid tribute to the late filmmaker including PM Modi, India’s President Droupadi Murmu, and Akshay Kumar.
