Heavy Fog Hits UAE, Slowing Traffic & Marking Seasonal Shift

On Tuesday morning, motorists across the UAE faced slow-moving traffic due to dense fog. The National Meteorological Centre (NCM) issued a red alert for severe fog, with visibility dropping below 1,000 meters, and a yellow alert for areas with reduced visibility from mist and fog.

Traffic Disruptions and Safety Advisories

Due to the reduced visibility, authorities have warned drivers to be cautious. Speed limits have been lowered to 80 km/h on major and internal roads in Abu Dhabi, and electronic information boards are updating speed limits to reflect the changing conditions.

The fog affected several key areas, including:

- Dubai: Near Al Maktoum International Airport, Expo, Jebel Ali, and Al Minhad.

- Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road, from Al Mirfa to Al Ruwais, as well as Habshan, Madinet Zayed, Remah (Al Dhafra Region), Al Khaznah, and Sweihan (Al Ain).

- Other areas: Saih Sudaira Road towards Ghantout, Al Khatim, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road from Umm Al Quwain to Ras Al Khaimah.

Weather Update and Forecast

The NCM has warned that visibility may further decline until 9 am today. This foggy weather indicates a shift in seasons. September is expected to mark the end of summer, with temperatures gradually decreasing at night and during the latter half of the month.

Residents should prepare for potential rain and thunder in some regions, particularly in the east and possibly extending to internal areas due to cumulonimbus cloud formation.

Today’s weather will be fair to partly cloudy with increased humidity at night, which could lead to fog or mist over some coastal and internal areas. Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally picking up during the day, and sea conditions will be slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

Temperatures in Abu Dhabi will be around 42°C, while Dubai will see highs of 41°C, with humidity ranging from 25% to 90%.
