German Airport Confiscates 90kg of Dubai Chocolate

German customs officials recently confiscated 90 kg (198 lbs) of luxury Dubai chocolate from a woman at Hamburg airport, sparking controversy over the unreported import. The 33-year-old woman, whose identity has not been revealed, failed to declare the 460 chocolate bars she was carrying, which were hidden in three suitcases.

These popular chocolate bars, made famous on TikTok, are known for their rich combination of pistachios and crispy filo pastry. In Germany, they sell for around 25 euros ($25.76) each. The woman claimed to have paid only 4.60 euros ($4.73) for each bar, but customs officials suspected the haul was intended for commercial resale due to the large quantity and the total value of about 2,100 euros.

Customs authorities raised concerns not only about potential tax evasion but also about public health. They found no ingredient or allergen information on the packaging, which posed a possible health risk for consumers. According to a statement from the customs office, the chocolate bars would either be re-exported or destroyed.

In addition to facing potential charges for tax evasion over the unpaid import duties of more than 330 euros, the woman will be further investigated. However, no arrests were made at the time of the seizure.
