The US President, Donald Trump, announced reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday, Apr. 2 and implemented the 10 percent reciprocal tariffs on the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Higher reciprocal tariff rates have been implemented on China with 34 percent, India with 26 percent, and the EU with 20 percent.
The minimum tariff will be implemented from Apr. 5, while the maximum tariff will be implemented from Apr. 9.
Other than the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco have also been imposed with a 10 percent tariff each.
However, other Middle easten countries are at the other end of the spectrum with Syria being subjected to 41 percent tariff and Iraq being subject with 39 percent tariff.
The countries not mentioned on the list that was released will be subject to the baseline 10 percent tariff.
The US had a trade surplus with the GCC last year, which seems to have led to the implementation of lower tariffs that are expected to have a lesser effect on trade, compared to other countries.
