The Fourth Al Khail Road Bridge Officially Launched

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the opening of a new 610-metre, two-lane bridge this Sunday, October 13. This bridge is strategically located between the intersection of Al Meydan Street and Ras Al Khor Street, providing direct access towards Deira. It marks the fourth addition to the busy Al Khail Road as part of the comprehensive Al Khail Road Development Project.

Major Upgrades for Traffic Flow

The Al Khail Road Development Project is an ambitious initiative that includes the construction of 3,300 metres of bridges and the widening of more than 6,820 metres of lanes. With the final touches being completed on the new bridge, Hamad Al Shehhi, director of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, shared details on the bridge's capacity. He stated that it can accommodate up to 3,200 vehicles per hour, effectively connecting traffic from Meydan Street to Al Khail Road towards Deira.

In addition to the bridge, surface road improvements have been made over a span of 1,550 metres, linking Al Khail Road to Ras Al Khor Street. These enhancements aim to resolve common traffic issues, including lane weaving—where drivers switch lanes frequently—by providing dedicated lanes for those heading to Deira and separate paths for those going to Ras Al Khor.

Significant Time Savings

Al Shehhi emphasized that the Al Khail Road Development Project will enhance the capacity of current intersections and bridges, accommodating approximately 19,600 vehicles per hour. This upgrade is designed to streamline traffic flow, eliminate congestion at flyovers, and reduce travel times by an impressive 30%.

“Al Khail Road is one of the major highways in Dubai, serving over 1.5 million people and handling more than 300,000 vehicles daily,” he pointed out.

Improving Connectivity Across Dubai

The mega-project will enhance traffic flow across seven key areas along Al Khail Road, including Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Al Jaddaf, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle. Al Shehhi also highlighted the quick progress of the project, with the recent completion of three additional bridges in under nine months.

  • The first bridge connects Al Khail Road to Financial Centre Street, facilitating access to Sheikh Zayed Road.
  • The second bridge in Al Quoz 1 links traffic from Al Khail Road to Al Waha Street and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street.
  • The third bridge serves the Jumeirah Village Circle community, connecting Hessa and Al Khamila streets.

The final bridge in this series will open next week, situated between the Latifa interchange and Meydan interchange, thus completing the Al Khail Road Development Project.
