Fire Breaks Out in Deira, Burns Down 30-Year-Old Shop

A fire broke out at a shop near the Gold Souq in Al Ras, Deira, Dubai on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The fire started at the upper level of the Kashmir Art Palace shop around 11:00 a.m. and spread to the lower floor at 11:10 a.m. and the other levels of the three-storey building where the shop is located.

The employees in the shop and the nearby stores immediately evacuated the area where the Dubai Civil Defence team arrived and quickly put out the fire.

The area was cordoned off by the authorities until the fire was completely extinguished and the electricity of the building was completely cut off for safety purposes.

No injuries were reported, but the shop was completely damaged by the fire. The shop had been operating in the area for thirty years.

The damage was limited to only one side of the building, therefore the rest of the building did not incur severe damage.

The nearby building and stores were not severely affected by the fire, except for a few broken windows.

According to the witnesses on site, the fire was caused by a short circuit, which spread because the shop contained textile products covered by plastic packaging and because of the wooden shelves of the store.

The business has incurred heavy losses because of the fire since the stock at the shop could not be salvaged.
