A major milestone in Philippine art is set to unfold as TRIBE: The Philippine Pavilion makes its debut at World Art Dubai 2025. From April 17 to 20, the Dubai World Trade Centre will host this historic showcase, marking the first time the Philippines has its own national pavilion at a major international art fair. This initiative shines a global spotlight on Filipino creativity and highlights the growing cultural exchange between the Philippines and the Gulf region.
Spearheaded by acclaimed Filipino artist, collector, and gallerist Carlo Garrido, in collaboration with TRIBE, a collective of Filipino creatives in the UAE, the pavilion will feature 11 galleries and over 45 Filipino artists from around the world, including the UAE, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. The exhibition presents a diverse range of styles—surrealism, cubism, abstract, and more—all unified by the rich and evolving Filipino artistic identity.
For Filipinos in the Gulf, this pavilion represents more than just an art exhibition; it’s a celebration of cultural pride and a testament to the talent and influence of the Filipino diaspora. With more than two million Filipinos living and working in the Middle East, including a significant population in the UAE, events like World Art Dubai provide an essential platform for Filipino artists to connect with global audiences and share their stories through art.
Garrido’s vision for the pavilion is clear: to showcase works that resonate universally while remaining deeply rooted in Filipino culture. The exhibition will feature everything from contemporary pieces reflecting modern themes to works inspired by Philippine mythology and heritage, offering a fresh perspective on Filipino artistry in a global context.
One of the standout elements of the exhibition is the inclusion of Baybayin calligraphy, an indigenous Filipino script reimagined as a contemporary art form. The presence of such cultural elements bridges the past and present, emphasizing the resilience and evolving nature of Filipino identity.
World Art Dubai is recognized as one of the region’s most important art fairs, attracting artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts from around the world. With the Philippine Pavilion’s inclusion, Filipino artists are not just participating but making a statement: their art is global, relevant, and here to stay.
As the Gulf continues to foster artistic and cultural dialogues, TRIBE’s presence at World Art Dubai strengthens the ties between the Philippines and the region. This landmark event serves as a reminder that while Filipinos may be spread across the world, their creativity and identity remain deeply connected to their roots.
