Etihad Airways Suspends Beirut Flights

In response to escalating tensions in Lebanon, Etihad Airways, Emirates, and flydubai have suspended all flights to and from Beirut as of Tuesday. This move comes as safety concerns mount in the region.

It’s not just UAE airlines responding to the crisis. Several international carriers, including Tarom, Kuwait Airways, Saudia, Lufthansa, Sun Express, Swissair, France Air, Transavia, Turkish Airlines, and Cyprus Airways, have also halted their flights to Beirut. The decision reflects the growing concern over safety in Lebanon.

Impact on Beirut’s Air Travel

Jean Abboud, President of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agency Owners, reported a significant decline in air traffic at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport. He stated that about 14 airlines have interrupted their operations due to the current security and military developments. This has led to a 30-40 percent drop in airport attendance, according to a report by the National News Agency (NNA).

Rising Tensions in Lebanon

The suspension of flights comes as tensions in Lebanon continue to rise. On Monday, Israel launched more than 800 missiles and drones into Lebanon, resulting in nearly 500 casualties, including women and children. The Israeli military has called on residents of southern Lebanon to evacuate the area.
