Employees Won't Get Work Visas for Delaying Getting Job Loss Insurance

UAE employees who failed to meet the Oct. 1 deadline for applying for the unemployment insurance scheme will not be able to renew their work visas until they have paid off all their fines.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation said the fines will be deducted from employees' salaries or from their end-of-service gratuities.

Employees were warned that they would have to pay fines of AED 400 if they failed to meet the deadline for applying for the insurance.

A fine of AED200 will be implemented for those employees who do not pay the insurance premium within three months of the due date.

Employees who have subscribed to this insurance scheme can either make a payment to cover the year's subscription or they can make quarterly or monthly payments.

Applying for the unemployment insurance scheme is optional for employees working in the free zones.

Employees who have started new jobs will get a four-month grace period for applying for this scheme.

The ministry shared that 6.6 million people have already registered for unemployment insurance, which will provide a safety net for employees in the public and private sectors if they lose their jobs.
