Dubai Shoppers Can Soon File Retail Complaints via WhatsApp

Dubai residents will soon be able to file complaints against retailers through WhatsApp, simplifying the dispute process. The Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade (DCCPFT), under the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), is set to launch the service next month, allowing consumers to submit grievances and receive swift resolutions.

How It Works: AI-Driven Resolution Letters

Ahmad Ali Moosa, Director of the Consumer Protection Department at DCCPFT, explained that the new system will use artificial intelligence to handle complaints efficiently. Consumers will need to upload supporting documents, answer a few questions, and receive a resolution letter with the DET’s official letterhead.

Shoppers can then present this letter to the retailer, requiring them to take action. If a retailer refuses to comply, they may face penalties.

Required Documents for Filing Complaints

To ensure a valid complaint, consumers must provide key documents such as invoices and contracts. Without these, complaints will not be processed. Ahmad emphasized the importance of submitting accurate and complete documentation for a smoother resolution.

A More Convenient Option for Consumers

Currently, complaints can be filed through DET’s website or call center (600545555), but the new WhatsApp service aims to make the process more accessible. “WhatsApp is a tool everyone has, and we want to make it easier for people to resolve their issues quickly,” Ahmad said.

Official Website for Consumer Protection

The WhatsApp complaint number will be the same as the DET call center number. Ahmad also advised residents to visit DET’s official website, consumerrights.ae, for accurate information and to avoid online scams.

Dubai’s consumer protection department continues to enhance services, ensuring residents have a hassle-free way to address consumer disputes.
