Dubai motorists who fail to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead will now face automatic fines, as Dubai Police integrates AI-powered radars to monitor and enforce tailgating violations. Previously, offenders only received warning messages, but with the rise in violations, authorities are taking stricter action.
Tailgating now carries a Dh400 fine and four black points on the driver’s record. Last year, police announced that repeat offenders could have their vehicles impounded for up to 30 days.
Radars to Enforce Multiple Traffic Violations
Aside from tailgating, the upgraded radars will track several other violations, including excessive vehicle noise. The system can detect the noise level, its source, and its intensity. Drivers exceeding the permitted noise limits will face a Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points. Authorities stressed that this measure aims to reduce disturbances in residential areas and enhance the quality of life in the city.
