Dubai Approves 65-Kilometer Suspended Transport System

Dubai is set to transform its public transport system with the launch of a 65 km suspended transport system connecting Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khor, and Zabeel. The project aims to enhance the city’s smart mobility and sustainability efforts.

Part of Dubai’s Future Vision for Mobility

Announced by Dubai’s Executive Council on Tuesday, this innovative project is part of a broader initiative to cement Dubai’s leadership in technology and urban development over the next decade. According to the Dubai Media Office (DMO), the new suspended transport system will contribute to the city's goal of making 25% of all public transport journeys autonomous by 2030.

Efficient and Sustainable Travel

The suspended transport system will integrate seamlessly with other public transportation options, ensuring people can move across the city more efficiently and sustainably. Although details on the system’s design are limited, previous showcases by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have hinted at the potential use of sky pods—small, driverless pods that run on elevated beams, providing passengers with a smooth and scenic ride across Dubai.
