The media world was shaken by the sudden passing of Syrian media personality Subhy Otry on Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025. Otry, aged 48, was a prominent figure in Arab television and journalism, and his death has been described as a "shock" by colleagues and fans alike. 

A Sudden Loss That Stunned the Industry 

Colleagues from ET Bel Arabi, the show where Subhy most recently worked, expressed their heartbreak in emotional tributes. They described his passing as "unexpected" and emphasized the irreplaceable gap left in the team and among viewers who admired his charisma and professionalism. 

Early Life: From Aleppo to Arab Screens

Born on July 6, 1977, in Aleppo, Syria, Subhy Otry's path to stardom began with an academic background in Business Administration from the University of Aleppo. However, his passion for communication led him to earn further qualifications in media and television production, paving the way for a successful transition into broadcasting. 

Versatile Roles in Media and Stage Presentation 

Subhy launched his media career in 2007 with Rotana Khalijia, presenting the weekly entertainment news on the show Sayidaty, and contributing to the program Fashion Time. His talent quickly found recognition, leading him to roles with other networks like LBCI and DMTV. He also served as a media coordinator for the BBC and wrote for well-regarded magazines including Dubai Cultural, Zahrat Al Khaleej, and Infinity. 

Rise to Fame with MBC and ET Bel Arabi

Death of Subhy Otry 

In 2014, Otry joined MBC, gaining regional fame as a lead presenter on Trending, and later becoming a staple on ET Bel Arabi until 2023. His trusted voice and engaging presence solidified his reputation as a beloved and respected media figure. 

Extensive Contributions to Arab Media 

Throughout his career, Subhy Otry conducted over 3,000 interviews with Arab and international stars and delivered more than 2,500 hours of television content. His journalistic journey included coverage of major events like the Joy Awards and the Red Sea International Film Festival.

Beyond television, Subhy explored acting through stage productions such as Hamlet Wakes Up Late and Maqam Ibrahim and Safiya. In 2017, he published his literary work, Ship of the Soul, which garnered interest in cultural circles for its poetic depth. 

Final Appearance Before His Death 

In January 2025, Subhy announced his participation in the drama series Habak, portraying the character of journalist Ziad Saif. Scenes were filmed in Damascus with stars like Karis Bashar, Mhayar Khaddour, and Salloum Haddad. Unfortunately, his sudden death meant the role remained incomplete. 

The Cause of Death: A Sudden and Silent Goodbye 

The Arab media world was struck with grief upon learning of Subhy Otry’s sudden death, which his uncle revealed was caused by a heart attack (angina pectoris). The tragedy was even more shocking given that Subhy had no known health issues. Though his passing was only announced recently, it occurred three days earlier in Germany. He had reportedly experienced stomach pain and went to a pharmacy for medication, where he sadly collapsed and passed away. Lacking identification at the time, he wasn’t immediately recognized. It was only when a concerned friend returned to search for him and contacted the police that the devastating news was confirmed—leaving a wave of sorrow in his wake. 

Subhy Otry’s sudden departure leaves a profound emptiness in Arab media. His warmth, talent, and sincerity touched countless hearts. Though gone too soon, his voice and legacy will echo through the stories he told and the lives he inspired. A true icon, remembered with love, and deeply missed by all.
