World’s Greatest Chess Brains to Congregate in Dubai for Global Chess

The reigning chess champion Ding Liren, five-time winners Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand, and four-time Women’s World champion Hou Yifan are among 13 world chess champions will be seen in action when Dubai hosts the inaugural edition of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League (GCL).
The competition, which will take place at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club from June 21st to July 2nd, will feature top players from 14 various countries. The $1 million prize pool for the competition is sponsored by the Dubai Sports Council.
At the Global Chess League, each team will participate in a unique joint team structure. There are six players on each side, at least two of whom must be female. Six teams will battle against one another in a double round robin match that lasts no more than two hours.
All games will be telecast live.
There are six more world champions competing, including 2021 World Rapid Chess champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov, 2021 World Blitz Chess champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, 2013 World Rapid Chess champion Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, 2008 Blitz Chess World champion Leinier Domínguez, three-time Blitz Chess World champion Alexander Grischuk, and 2018 World Rapid Chess champion Daniil Dubov.
