Every year, the world celebrates May 31st as No Tobacco Day since 1988 when the World Health Assembly passed a resolution calling for this day to be celebrated for the purpose of educating people about the dangers of tobacco use and the business practices of tobacco companies, in addition to what the World Health Organization is doing to combat the tobacco epidemic and what people can do to claim their right to healthy living.
On this day, we highlight some figures related to the tobacco industry, the most important of which is that tobacco kills more than 8 million people every year and causes about 600,000,000 trees to be cut down, 22,000,000,000 tonnes of water to be used to make cigarettes, and 84,000,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to be released into the air leading to global warming, environment detorsion, and human health-harm.
To be part of the celebration of this day, we encourage you to post some facts related to this destroying industry and its impact on people's health on social media platforms to contribute to the awareness of the public, and if you are a smoker, promise us to quit it to preserve your health and the health of those around you.
