A video showing a wild cat near a residential area in Fujairah has gone viral, prompting local authorities to investigate the situation. The Fujairah Environment Agency announced on Monday that a specialist team is looking into the matter.
Investigation Underway
The team is trying to determine whether the wild cat, known locally as Al Washq or Caracal, is still in the area where it was spotted by residents. The Caracal is a medium-sized wild cat known for its ability to leap up to 10 feet in the air to catch prey.
Possible Ownership and Safety Concerns
The environmental authority is examining whether the cat is a pet owned by someone in the area or if it is a stray. If it is found to be a pet, the owner may face legal consequences.
Advice for Residents
Residents have been urged to keep a safe distance from the wild cat and to avoid interacting with it. Wildlife enthusiasts are also encouraged to maintain caution.
How to Report
If residents encounter any wild animals or have any related concerns, they should contact the Fujairah Environment Agency at the toll-free number 800368.
