US rapper Fatman Scoop, renowned for his iconic tracks "Be Faithful" and "It Takes Scoop," has passed away at 53 after collapsing on stage during a performance at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut, USA.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the music world, with tributes pouring in from fans and fellow artists.
The tragedy unfolded when the rapper, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, experienced a medical emergency mid-performance. According to US media reports, medical staff on-site attempted CPR before rushing him to the hospital, where doctors were unable to revive him.
In a heartfelt statement on his Instagram account, Scoop’s family expressed their grief: “It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity.”
Scoop’s manager, Birch Michael, also confirmed the news on Facebook, saying, "I love you, Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you gave to me."
Hip-hop legend Missy Elliott took to X (formerly Twitter) to honor her friend, writing, "Your voice and energy have contributed to many songs that made people feel happy and want to dance for over two decades. Your impact is huge and will never be forgotten."
Fatman Scoop's career, marked by his booming voice and infectious energy, spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on the hip-hop and club scenes. He made headlines in 2018 when former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison used his hit "Be Faithful" in a social media clip, sparking a minor political controversy. Scoop humorously responded, inviting Morrison to one of his shows and defending his lyrics as “a fun PARTY SONG that has no NEGATIVITY or HARM in it!!”
Fatman Scoop’s death leaves a significant void in the music world, but his legacy of joy, dance, and positivity will undoubtedly endure.
