UN Women Executive Director Hails Support of Sheikha Fatima for Women

Dr. Sima Sami Bahous, Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), lauded the support of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), for women and her patronage of the International Conference for Women, Peace and Security (ICWPS).
She made this statement during her interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the ICWPS, which began yesterday.

She then stressed that UN Security Council's Resolution No. 1325 of 2000 affirms the importance of women’s equal participation and engagement in all efforts related to peacekeeping and strengthening security in conflict-torn areas around the world, as well as in the post-conflict rebuilding process.
The conference is an opportunity to discuss violence against women, human trafficking, child marriage and women’s economic empowerment, and highlights the importance of drafting national legislations that enable women to flourish, she further added.
