The UN General Assembly has declared May 25 as World Football Day. The decision honors the centennial of the first international football tournament, which took place during the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Libya's representative to the UN, Taher M. El-Sonni, introduced the resolution that received support from over 160 countries out of the 193-member General Assembly.
