UAE's First-Ever Methanol Plant to be Built in Abu Dhabi

Ta’ziz, Abu Dhabi’s major industrial hub, has signed a AED 6.2 billion deal with Samsung E&A to build the UAE's first-ever methanol plant in Al Ruwais Industrial City. The facility is set to produce 1.8 million tonnes annually, positioning it among the largest methanol plants in the world.
Strengthening the Chemical Industry
In addition to methanol, the plant will produce methanol-based derivatives, contributing to the growth of the UAE’s chemical sector. This project is part of broader efforts to expand industrial capabilities within the Ta’ziz complex.
Major Investment in Infrastructure
The contract follows a significant announcement in November 2024, where more than USD 2 billion was allocated to develop infrastructure for the Ta’ziz complex. This includes utilities and a state-of-the-art chemical terminal to support operations.
Cleaner Energy Transition
Methanol is gaining recognition as a cleaner fuel option, offering an alternative to traditional energy sources like coal and diesel. It is particularly useful in power generation and marine transport, where it can replace high-sulphur fuels.
