The UAE has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, in a statement to the UN Security Council.
In the statement, the UAE condemned in the strongest terms all forms of hate speech and incitement.
The UAE said threats to humanitarian workers are particularly insidious given the multiplicative effect on the civilians they are trying to assist. To counter the effects of incitement, the council needs to identify and employ effective counter-narratives, support media literacy, and engage more closely with the private sector.
Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, the UAE's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said “the violence in Ukraine is a stark reminder that this Council must prioritize conflict resolution and de-escalation.”
