Noha Moussad Elemam and Sara Ishaq Alkhoori received grants for their research on climate change and cancer as part of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Middle East Regional Young Talents Programme.
Both women were honored at a ceremony at The St Regis Dubai, The Palm.
The programme recognizes and supports enterprising women who work in healthcare, environment, and space exploration every year.
Post doctrate winners receive grants of twenty thousand euros, while PhD researchers secure a fund of eight thousand euros.
Elemam is a senior lecturer in immunology at the University of Sharjah, who shared that receiving the grant assured her that she was on the right track with her work about improving the understanding of breast cancer.
The lecturer is working to develop biomarkers, which will help detect breast cancer as early as possible.
The grant will help Elemam advance her research for fighting breast cancer.
On the other hand, Sara Ishaq Alkhoori is a PhD research student at Khalifa University.
Alkhoori is researching how biofuel production can be used to mitigate carbon emissions and safeguard the environment.
Her research involves producing and using biofuels from a renewable source to create a safe and clean transport fuel, which will help reduce the negative effects on the climate.
Alkhoori is carrying out this research as it aligns with UAE's Year of Sustainability and COP 28's global climate goals.
Both women have become a source of inspiration for younger generations of women with their research.
