The UAE visa amnesty has been extended to Tuesday, Dec. 31 because of the huge demand from overstayers wishing to change their visa status, officials announced on Thursday.
The director of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili said, "The extension is the last opportunity for overstayers to regularise their stay in the UAE without having a ban."
Major General Al Khaili confirmed that this was the last extension and the fines will be automatically listed on Jan. 1, 2025.
Employers in the UAE have been warned against hiring overstayers and visa violators because they will be penalized with a hefty fine of one million dirhams.
The visa amnesty period was supposed to end on Thursday, Oct. 31, but it has been extended because of the huge demand from overstayers to change their status.
