The penalties for intentionally destroying public, historical, national, and private records were announced by the UAE Public Prosecution (PP) on Tuesday.
An 8-month jail sentence, a fine ranging from AED 40,000 to AED 100,000, or both may be imposed on anybody found guilty of deliberately destroying public, historic, national, or private records.
A minimum one-year jail period or a fine between AED 50,000 and AED 1,000,000 may also be imposed on those who purposefully destroy, smuggle secret papers outside the state, copy, or share them without authority.
The updates are a part of the Public Prosecution's ongoing efforts to increase public knowledge of current laws and to promote a legal culture among them.
