UAE to Launch Residency Visa Amnesty in September

The amnesty period will allow individuals to update their visa status or leave the country without incurring fines.

The UAE will launch a two-month amnesty from Sep.1 for residents with expired residency visas.

This amnesty period will allow the residents either to renew their visas or leave the country without incurring fines.
The country's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security launched this initiative on Thursday, Aug. 1.

The decision has been welcomed by many because the amnesty period will allow people to return to their home countries after overstaying because they cannot pay the fines they have incurred.
Now, the penalty is AED50 per day for visitors or residents who overstay after their visas have expired.
Residency visa holder are generally given six months to leave the country or change their visa status.
The amnesty period is for those individuals who stay beyond the six months.
