The UAE will assume the presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council in June 2023, starting Thursday, June 1st.
The presidency of the UN's top body is held for one month by each of the panel's 15 members and the presidency rotates according to alphabetical order.
The UAE, which is a non-permanent member of the council for two years, last presided over the Security Council in March 2022.
During the UAE's presidency, they will host three significant events. The first event will take place on June 8th and will focus on improving collaboration between the UAE and the Arab League regarding security issues in the Middle East and North Africa.
The second event will take place on June 13th and will be hosted by UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President-designate of COP28 Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. He will host a debate about the link between climate, peace and security.
The third event will be hosted on June 14th and it will highlight the issues of intolerance, hate speech, and extremism while emphasizing the importance of countering these issues and fostering peace.
The UAE was selected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2021.
