UAE Supermarket Chain to Reward Shoppers with Reusable Bags

With the Single-Use Plastic Bag policy taking effect from June 1 2022, Spinneys chain will cut off 25 fils from the total bill of those shoppers who bring their own bag
Carrefour supermarket chain also took to social media to announce that they "will stop all usage of single-use plastic bags in (their) Abu Dhabi stores at checkouts".

Lulu hypermarkets have also announced they will no longer be providing free shopping bags at all LuLuUAE stores in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain".
Inspectors from EAD, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi (DED), and Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), were trained on Executive Regulations regarding single-use plastic products and their alternatives in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The ban decision excludes:
- bags designated for medicines in pharmacies
- bag rolls for vegetables, meat, fish, chicken, grains and bread (knot bags)
- large shopping bags designed for fashion or electronic gadgets, toys
- waste bags of different sizes and types
- bags designated for keeping messages, postal parcels or magazines and newspapers
- bags designated for transporting plants, flowers
- laundry bags
