UAE's Ministry of Interior has blocked more than 2,800 social media accounts in the past three years for promoting drug usage in the country.

The ministry has worked with law enforcement agencies and social media companies to track down pages promoting drug usage.

The Director General of the Federal Anti-Narcotics General Directorate Brig Saeed Al Suwaidi shared that his team has blocked 2,852 accounts and 36 big drug dealers operating the drug networks from outside the UAE.

Al Suwaidi also shared that an awareness campaign has been launched in the UAE to make people aware of the online marketing of drugs.

The campaign is called "Join Us to Stop It", which encouraged people in the country to report any WhatsApp messages and numbers that promoted drugs.
