UAE Set to Resume Flights to Syria

The UAE is getting ready to reopen flights to Syria. The country’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced late Monday that air travel between the UAE and Syria will soon resume, with both sides currently coordinating the steps needed to restart flights.
In its statement, the GCAA said the move is aimed at improving air traffic and supporting both passenger and cargo movement between the two countries.

Flights Were Suspended in January 2025
Flights between the UAE and Syria have been suspended since early January 2025, following the fall of Bashar Al Assad’s regime in December 2024. The first sign of reopening came on January 7, when a Syrian Airlines flight carrying 145 passengers flew from Damascus to Sharjah, marking the first international commercial flight out of Syria since the regime change.
Decision Comes After High-Level Talks
The decision to bring back flight operations follows a key meeting on Sunday between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Syria’s new leader, Ahmed Al Sharaa. During the talks, the UAE president reaffirmed his support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and also emphasized the UAE’s commitment to helping Syria through its transition and reconstruction.
Regional Moves to Reconnect With Syria
The UAE is not the only country taking steps toward reconnecting with Syria. Last week, Saudi Arabia’s General Civil Aviation Authority also announced that a team will be heading to Syria to prepare for restarting flights between the two countries.
As coordination continues, the resumption of UAE-Syria flights marks a significant step in restoring diplomatic and economic ties in the region, and reopening travel routes for passengers and businesses alike.
