UAE Residents Now Have to Pay More for Health Insurance

Almost a dozen companies in the UAE have increased the premium for health insurances to 35 percent in the last two months, so UAE residents will now have to pay more for a health insurance.
Premiun rates started to increase in August and continued to do so in September and October.
The average price for the health insurance has increased between 10 percent to 35 percent, which depends on the age of the applicant.
Health insurance rates have been increasing since the COVID-19 pandemic by 15 percent to 20 percent, every year because of medical inflation.
The UAE has a world-class health insurance sector and Dubai received 674,000 medical tourists in 2022 who spent AED 992 million.
The minimum premium for a health insurance with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) basic planhas not changed for employees earning below AED 4,000 monthly.
The new price for basic insurance for employees earning above AED 4,000 has increased by 10 percent.
For women sponsored by their husbands, the price has increased by 20 percent to 30 percent.
Premiums for basic plans remain unchanged, however premiums have increased for standard plans that are age branded.
The increase in health insurance premiums have come about because of medical inflation; increasing cost of medical treatments, medicine, and medical technology; aging population; and prevalence of chronic diseases.
