The United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed unprecedented rainfall on Tuesday, April 16, marking the heaviest recorded within a 24-hour period since data collection began in 1949. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported that the "Khatm Al Shakla" area in Al Ain received the highest rainfall, reaching 254 mm in less than a day. This surpasses the previous record of 287.6 mm recorded at NCM's Shuwaib station on March 9, 2016.
Climate History Milestone
The NCM confirmed that the rainfall observed in the UAE over the past 24 hours is an exceptional event in the country's climate history. This historic downpour is anticipated to lead to even greater rainfall amounts in the upcoming hours, further solidifying its significance in UAE's climate data records.
Impact on Environment
This extraordinary rainfall event not only breaks records but also contributes positively to the UAE's environment. The increased rainfall average aids in replenishing groundwater reserves, strengthening the country's water resources.
