These trees will be planted utilizing drone technology in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year, according to the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi.
The Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve, Al Mirfa City, and Jubail Island are among the targeted areas because they already have natural mangroves.
The initiative supports the UAE's National Net Zero 2050 strategy and the nation's objective to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030. It also coincides with the Year of Sustainability.
It also targets slashing the environmental footprint of COP28 visitors, at the rate of absorbing one tonne of carbon for every 5,000 mangrove trees.

"Nature-based solutions, including those involving mangroves, have the potential to supply over a third of our climate mitigation needs and build resilience to the effects of climate change. I welcome this EAD-led initiative which both raises awareness and takes action to restore and protect mangroves in the UAE," said Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP28.
Almost 85% of the mangroves in the UAE are located in Abu Dhabi, and as part of its policy, the EAD is trying to better understand and protect these crucial coastal habitats.
COP28 will be held from November 30th until December 12th at the Expo City, Dubai.
