UAE Passport Tops Global Rankings for Fourth Year
For the fourth consecutive year, the UAE has claimed the top spot in the global ranking of the world’s strongest passports, according to the Passport Index. With a score of 180, the UAE passport continues to lead, offering Emirati citizens the ability to access more than 90% of the world's countries with ease.
UAE Passport Strength
The UAE passport’s impressive score grants holders significant travel advantages. Out of the 198 countries that issue visas, Emirati citizens can enter 133 countries visa-free. Additionally, they can obtain visas on arrival in 47 countries and only need pre-arranged visas for 18 countries. This access makes the UAE passport one of the most powerful in the world.
Spain and Other European Nations Close Behind
Spain claimed the second spot with a close score of 179, surpassing Germany. Spanish citizens have slightly more visa-free access, entering 134 countries without a visa. However, they still fall behind the UAE in overall accessibility, with 45 countries offering visas on arrival and 19 requiring pre-arranged visas.
European countries continued to dominate the rankings, filling the top 18 positions. Finland climbed to third, surpassing France and Italy. France, with a score of 178, remains the strongest passport among G20 nations.
Kosovo’s Impressive Rise
Kosovo emerged as the most notable climber this year, gaining 35 mobility points. This boost was primarily due to Kosovo's recent entry into the Schengen Zone, which significantly improved its global passport ranking.
Declines for the US and UK
While some countries rose in the rankings, others experienced a decline. The UK, which was ranked among the top 10 in 2017, dropped to 32nd place in 2024, losing 10 positions. Similarly, the US passport fell from 27th place to 38th, making it the weakest passport among G7 nations. In comparison, China’s passport ranked 110th.
GCC Passport Rankings
Among other GCC nations, Qatar ranked 95th, with 76 visa-free countries, 44 offering visas on arrival, and 78 requiring pre-arranged visas. Kuwait followed closely in 96th place with 62 visa-free countries, 50 offering visas on arrival, and 86 requiring pre-arranged visas. Saudi Arabia ranked 100th, with 57 visa-free countries, 46 offering visas on arrival, and 95 requiring pre-arranged visas.
