UAE Now Allows Global Talent to Work Remotely for Government

The UAE has introduced a new remote work system that enables government entities to hire employees working from outside the country. Approved on Monday, the system is designed to bring in specialized talent from across the world to handle government projects, conduct research, and execute special tasks.
Expanding Remote Work Beyond Borders
The UAE has allowed remote work in federal government offices since 2017, but this marks the first time employees based abroad will be part of the system. The decision was made during a UAE Cabinet meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE.
“The system will allow the UAE to tap into global expertise and specialized talent to execute projects and studies for federal entities,” Sheikh Mohammed announced on X.

Authorities will determine which government jobs can be performed remotely from outside the UAE. Additionally, guidelines will be set for contracted employees, outlining their duties and conditions of employment.
Boosting the UAE’s Digital Economy
During the same meeting, the UAE Cabinet also reviewed the National Digital Economy Strategy, which aims to nearly double the digital economy’s contribution to GDP from 9.7% to 19.4%.
“We remain committed to strengthening the UAE’s position in the global digital economy through ambitious national initiatives and projects over the next six years,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
