The UAE has officially lifted the ban on the personal use of drones, effective Tuesday, January 7, 2025. However, operators must adhere to stringent regulations to ensure safety and compliance.
The Ministry of Interior (MOI), the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, and the General Civil Aviation Authority announced in November that the ban, initially implemented in January 2022, would be gradually eased. This phased approach emphasizes the “safety of airspace” and the protection of society, individuals, and property.

This week, the MOI confirmed the formal lifting of the ban, allowing individuals to operate drones as long as they follow official guidelines. To assist operators, a new online platform has been launched, providing detailed regulations and guidelines. Users can access this information via the UAE Drones app or the official website at drones.gov.ae.
