Employers in the UAE are required by law to enroll their domestic workers in the wage protection system (WPS) as of April 1st, additional occupations are being added to the program.
The WPS is an electronic payment system that enables companies to pay their employees through approved financial institutions, such as banks and currency exchanges.
This ensures that workers receive their salaries on time, and the government can monitor wage payments to prevent any delays or discrepancies.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) recently reiterated its request for employers to register their domestic workers in the WPS starting April 1st. Five professions categorized as domestic workers must be included in the system.
- Private agricultural engineer
- Public Relations Officer (PRO)
- Housekeeper
- Personal tutor
- Personal trainer
Workers who fall under the domestic worker category, have unresolved labor complaints, are currently unemployed, or have officially registered their absence from work, are exempted from the requirement to be registered under the WPS. Additionally, those who have not yet completed 30 days of employment since the start of their contract are also not subject to this rule.
