Seven marathons, seven continents, seven days: that’s the ambitious challenge two Dubai residents, James Elliot-Square and Paris Norriss, are gearing up for as they kick off 2025. The pair will tackle the grueling World Marathon Challenge this January, running 42.2km each day for a week.

But it’s not just about endurance - James and Paris are running to raise $200,000 for the Sparkle Foundation and the Sovereign Art Foundation, organizations dedicated to helping underprivileged children in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

A History of Adventure

This isn’t their first foray into extreme challenges. James, an endurance athlete, has tackled numerous tough feats, while Paris, who runs a production company, once rowed 4,800km across the Pacific Ocean. However, the World Marathon Challenge is their most ambitious project yet, demanding months of preparation, strict training, and meticulous planning.

The Route: From Antarctica to Miami

The race starts in Antarctica, where participants will face freezing temperatures of -25°C. The decision to begin there minimizes weather-related delays. From Antarctica, they’ll fly to South Africa, then on to Perth, Dubai, Madrid, Brazil, and finally, Miami.

With just 18 hours between each race, a chartered plane will transport the runners to ensure they stay rested and ready. The event organizers have also ensured the challenge is carbon-neutral by offsetting all emissions.

Battling the Challenges

Both runners are aware of the physical toll this challenge will take. James is especially mindful of a previous rugby injury that caused nerve damage, while Paris is preparing his joints for the repeated strain.

The duo is also focused on managing recovery between races. With limited time and long flights, they’ll rely on active recovery, stretching, and specialized cold-weather gear for Antarctica.

The Bigger Picture

Despite the physical and logistical challenges, James and Paris remain motivated by their mission to support children in need. The funds raised will aid children affected by trafficking, violence, and neglect.
